Follow these instructions to set up your Plume with your modem that is connected to a separate router.
- Download the HomePass app and sign up to start the setup.
- Restart your modem.
- Disconnect your router from the VoIP phone if you wish to set up Plume as your new router and connect one of your Plume pods to a LAN port on your modem via Ethernet cable.
Alternatively, you can also connect one of your Plume pods to a LAN port on your router via network cable to keep using your existing router. You can leave your devices connected to the router if you wish to. - Set up a new Wi-Fi name and password on the app.
- Plug additional pods in different rooms. You can also connect these pods via network cable in order to get a stronger Wi-Fi network.
- Connect your devices (including your phone) to your new Wi-Fi wirelessly. You can also connect devices to pods or router via network cable or switch.
- Turn off your router Wi-Fi.
VoIP phone connected to a router
A VoIP phone connected to a router, or an Ethernet port on a modem-router combination does not need to be connected before setting up a Plume network. If you are replacing the router with a SuperPod the VoIP phone can be plugged into the second Ethernet port on the SuperPod once you have completed setting up your Plume network.
Don't forget to turn off your router Wi-Fi once your Plume network is set up.
VoIP phone connection on my modem-router combination
If you are using the VoIP phone connection on your modem-router combination device you will not need to make any changes when you add Plume to your network. Connect the SuperPod to one of the Ethernet ports on the modem-router combination to set up your Plume network.
Don't forget to turn off your router Wi-Fi once your Plume network is set up.
VoIP Phone connected to a router by a long Ethernet cable
A shorter Ethernet cable is used to connect a VoIP phone to a router if the phone can be connected to a pod. Once connected, the phone will use the pod's Wi-Fi connection to communicate with the router. However, in poor Wi-Fi environments, this may cause issues with a clear phone connection.
